Uganda, Africa, 27 August 2021 -- Just 10 years after starting their first African presence in Juba, South Sudan, the Caritas Sisters of Jesus give thanks to God for their first African novices in Uganda:

"We entered Uganda providentially in 2019 and were blessed with a group of young women who immediately wanted to enter religious life. Thanks to the efforts of the whole formation community of sisters, we have this year already five new aspirants and two pre-novices, who were welcome on the 23rd August. An on the 24th of August we had the Eucharist of accepting our first two African novices, in the presence of Archbishop John Baptist Odama of Gulu archdiocese, Uganda. We pray that God may continue to send us women who aspire to religious life and to be committed to the mission in these African lands. We ask for your prayers for these women as they begin their new journey!"

Due to their rather recent African commitment, the Congregation is investing still more new missionaries in this new frontier. Last March 2021 another 3 Korean sisters were commissioned from the General House with destinations in Africa - South Sudan & Uganda. At present there are 13 Caritas sisters in Africa: 7 in South Sudan, 5 in Uganda and one Caritas sister is preparing in Kenya.

The Caritas Sisters of Jesus Congregation was founded in 1937 in Japan and now is present in 16 countries around all five continents with 900+ professed members. In October 2021 they are about to celebrate their 18th General Chapter in Italy with the theme 'Renewed by the Spirit of the Risen Lord All Together for Our Common Home'.
