DBSTC (PNG Highlands) honours dignity of women with Women’s Day celebrations:

Simbu, Papua New Guinea, 22 March 2019 -- On the occasion of International Women’s Day, which was celebrated on 8 March, and National Women’s Day, which was celebrated on 22 March, Don Bosco Simbu Technical College honoured the women staff and students. Women’s Day was first commemorated by the United Nations (UN) on March 8th during the International Women’s Year of 1975. The day represents an important opportunity for individuals, communities, and countries to celebrate the progress, great achievements, and contributions of women, raise and confront difficult questions and challenges, build broad support for women’s rights, and work towards the full and equal participation of women within all areas of society.


The lively program at DBSTC, organized by Social Awareness Club, featured a wide variety of events, including MIME shows, a picture slideshow, speeches, poetry readings and wonderful sharing by the chief guests. As well, the college’s female staff and students were recognized and honoured for their pivotal contributions to the school community.


The celebration began with an introductory speech by the College Captain Mr Stanley Henku, followed by a powerful welcome speech by Mr James Magundu, Animator of Social Awareness Club. He welcomed the staff and students of Don Bosco Simbu Technical College for the programme. Male students welcomed the women in the college, including the two chief guests, female students, staffs and ancillary staff with a standing applause and by showering flowers while they were proceeding to the stage.


After the welcome speech, Ms Jascintine Nokondi addressed the audience with an encouraging speech about women’s day. She shared the importance of celebrating women’s day and women’s achievements in society and struggles they were facing.


After the speech our guest speaker, Mrs Francesca Moiwo, representing the Catholic Women’s Association of Kundiawa Diocese, presented a Power Point about PNG women in business by which she shared successful stories and government guidelines for the empowerment of women in PNG.


A video was presented for showing the importance of giving opportunities as well as a chance to live in the earth to girl child. After the video presentation members of social awareness club a MIME about the various stages of women’s life on earth was presented.
