FIN: Installation of new Provincial

MAKATI: 8 July 2008 --  The installation of the new North Philippines Provincial, Fr Eli Cruz, and his 'oath of office' took place on Saturday 5 July last, at St John Bosco Parish Church, Makati, Metro Manila. The event was attended by SDBs, FMAs, Caritas Sisters, Cooperators, Past Pupils of the SDB and FMA, Don Bosco Volunteers, Damas Salesianas and other well-wishers.
Fr Eli, in his homily, challenged members of the province with the two insistent calls of the Rector Major - his 'Salesians be holy' from his first six year term, and his recent call to 'educate with the heart of Don Bosco'.  The new provincial also commented that his appointment came as a complete surprise, especially given that he had just received the papers for his new term as Rector at Don Bosco Mandaluyong. His place as Rector at Mandaluyong has been taken by Fr Martin Macasaet who was recently in Rome as the province GC26 delegate. His installation as Rector, along with several other new Rectors, took place immediately following the installation of the new provincial
Fr Danny Torres, vice provincial, read the Rector Major's letter of appointment of Fr Eli as Provincial, and translated it from Italian to English.  He, along with Bro Joe Ferrer, witnessed Fr Eli's profession of faith.  The Latin text was used for the installation formula.
After the Church ceremonies, the quarterly formation session for the Salesian Family took place. This time it was a symposium on awareness of human rights of the young, in line with the Rector Major's strenna for 2008.
