China Province - pastoral orientation for workshop for coming school year

HONG KONG: 27th June 2008 --  Earlier this month (6th June) some 80 people from 18 Salesian schools in Hong Kong and Macau came together in Hong Kong in order to focus their efforts in line with the major pastoral concerns of the Province in the coming school year. Amongst participants were supervisors, principlas and vice principals, prefects of religious education and pastoral assistants.
After an introduction from the Provincial, Fr Simon Lam, and a moving moment of prayer, the assembly took up the four main themes, beginning with the Guidelines developed by the Congregation in GC26.  Consideration was then given to effective initiatives which can give echo to the Rector Major's Strenna, 'to educate with the heart of Don Bosco'. In fact this will become the pastoral theme for the coming school year.
The afternoon sessions were dedicated to reminding participants of basic features of Salesian education. Amongst other things it has meant aligning Salesian terminology with terms used in planning, provided by the Education Bureau. Such an alignment would help school Heads draw up a single school plan which can serve both Government and Congregation. The other afternoon topic was a study of the main objective for the next three years - to create a Salesian Youth atmosphere via groups (sodalities) in all Salesian primary and secondary schools.
The assembly was the first time that Hong Kong and Macua Salesian school leaders had met jointly for discussions of this kind. The intention, based on the positive results of this first meeting, is to meet again next year.
