THE BACKROOM BOYS!

Solid work being done at commission level

Here is a brief run-down, excerpted from Nick's (Reina SUE) account, of a day's work at commission level. The proposals below are just that - proposals yet to be accepted at general assembly level.

1.  AUSTRALIA-ASIA'S NEW LOOK:  Proposed now is a division into two along the following lines: South Asia (Indian provinces plus Sri Lanka and Myanmar delegations); East Asia-Pacific: AustraliaChinaPhilippines (x2), JapanIndonesia-TimorKoreaThailandVietnam.

2.  NEW LOOK GENERAL COUNCIL: new essentially in terms of better interaction ad intra and ad extra.  More coordination and evaluation of the work being done.  An ad hoc committee of experts which can assist the Council to be proactive especially in gloabl issues affecting the Congregation or where the Congregation needs to take a public or prophetic stance.

3.  ARTICLE 24 REGS: Mission procure to be aligned not only with the Councillor in charge of Missions but also the Economer General.

Those are the proposals that survived the process.  Others which did not included: naming Rectors at Provincial Council level then simply notifying the RM and Council; Prov. Chapter meetings every 6 years only - Assembly inbetween; Prov. sec. ex officio at the Prov. chapter; English as the official language of the Congregation; worldwide Salesian logo; more overseeing re houses of Study by Councillor for Formation.

COMISSION #5 - NEW SITUATIONS AND FORMS OF COMMUNITY LIFE.

Don't hold your breath!  It's back to the drawing-board for this commission, to take, if possible, a more prophetic stance, something that will help us all to live and work together more dynamically.
