Cast out into the deep - the ever-widening net of WYD

NATAL (Brazil): 20th September 2008 -- Perhaps it is not at all strange that the ripples of WYD in Australia in July are still being felt around the world, even if it's harder to tell exactly where the ripples started once you get to the edge! But let's try to explain this one.
During WYD, an exciting new collaborative effort emerged called WYDCross media. As they described themselves: "
We decided to join forces and unite our goals to provide better services to those who have the privilege of participating in World Youth Day, and especially for those who will follow it from home". After the July events in Sydney, this group had no desire to disband.  It includes the Triveneto Salesian Youth Movement, Donboscoland. Accordingly, they joined forces with a group that calls itself h2onews and created a new site called h2onews Crossmedia.  A bit of a mouthful all that, but there it is!
H2onews has its own story. It finds its origins in the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, and more precisely, marks its birthday as October 2006 at the First World Congress of Catholic Television in Madrid.  H2onews now provides a daily news service of Catholic news, 'Your Good News Source', as it says, in eight languages. It offers its multimedia services free of charge to Catholic TV, websites and radio station so that the Pope's words and news about the Church are available to everyone interested. Crossmedia and h2onews are now joining forces. In terms of communications collaboration it is an exciting project.
So where does Natal, Brazil come in? All part of the ripples of the 'net'.  A Brazilian Catholic who is in contact with us here in Rome, found a work entitled 'Digital Virtues' on the web, and has set about the task of translating it into Portuguese for wider distribution - he is, however, translating it from the Spanish edition due to be published in October.  This aroused his interest in Salesians and Salesian matters, so as he comes across material he sends it over. He is also closely involved with h2onews in its Portuguese edition (and with other Catholic communications enterprises in Brazil of which there are a considerable number, some of them Salesian).  So you see.... good news rippling out and across the ether.
Ok but to really get to the point!  Lo and behold an excellent little video on Artemides Zatti in any one of 8 languages, English included. Our Brazilian friend thought we may be interested - and of course we are!  So, take a look at http://www.h2onews.org/index.php?lang=en&section= and view the Zatti piece, then add crossmedia to the same URL immediately after h2onews and explore that too.  It will open up a whole new world of possibilities!
