NEW KOREAN PROVINCIAL ANNOUNCED
 
ROME: 20th June -- The Rector Major, Fr. Pascual Chavez, has approved the nomination of Fr. Paul Hwang as the first Korean-born Provincial.  He replaces Fr. Vaclav Klement, recently appointed as Regional for the East Asia-Oceania region.
Fr.Paul was born in Suwong, S. Korea in 1947, made his frist profession as a Salesian in 1967 and was ordained in 1980.  His ministry has been varied: after ordination he worked in the youth centre at Seoul for six years, then moved to the formation community at Kwangju where he became Rector in 1988.  On completion of his term he took over as Principal and Rector of the Middle and Senior school at Kwangju while also carrying the role of Vice Provincial from 1990 until this moment.
Fr. Paul has studied extensively oveseas; three years at Maynooth in Ireland for theology, and a further three years at the UPS where he gained his licentiate in Salesian spirituality.  He will be officially installed as Provincial on 29th June.
