TIMOR: ALL SALESIANS ACCOUNTED FOR

Julian Fox

East Timor has (rightly) dominated the efforts of 'austraLasia' in these

last weeks. Our principal concern has been the safety and welfare of the

Salesians in the area. A telephone call from Baucau now assures us that all

Salesians throughout the territory are accounted for and well - i.e. in Los

Palos, Fuiloro, Baucau itself, Laga, Fatumaca and Venilale. In Los Palos

there was some damage to the orphanage. In Dili itself there was looting of

the school and community house and the confreres there are in 'diaspora' but

we have had regular information on their situation and they will be seeking

to return to Dili just as soon as they are able to.

'austraLasia' will continue to report relevant news if there are new

developments....those who have joined the list for the purposes of Timor

updates only might care to indicate to me if they wish to remain on the list

for a while; from here on I would expect 'austraLasia' to resume its wider

reporting on Salesian matters throughout the Asia-Pacific-Oceania region.
