TIMOR: NEWS OF CONFRERES/SORS(?!)FROM FUILORO

Julian Fox

>From the FMA Newsletter we learn that the Sisters at Laga are o.k. With

them is one Sister from Fuiloro. The Salesians of Fuiloro (and I assume but

cannot verify that Fr. Jose VP would be amongst them) have taken refuge in

the mountains, along with the Sisters there and of course many refugees. We

just know that they are o.k. At Venilale and Baucau things are calm and our

men and women are well, in fact some Salesians have been able to return to

the Orphanage at Fatumaca. At Comoro, not far from the city (Dili)the

Sisters are already cleaning up and preparing to welcome elements of the

international visitors now arriving (not just soldiers, note. Journalists,

politicians etc.). Amongst the Sisters in Dili is Sr. Marlene (Ca USA). A

friend in L.A. has told me that Sr. Marlene spoke with her sister there by

phone the other day.

>From the ZENIT newsagency we learn that Bishop Do Nascimento in Baucau is

conducting negotiations to seek the release of an Indo Commando taken by

Falantil during the recent hostilities. He makes light of the small wound

he sustained during the height of hostilities near his own residence.
