SDB Radio broadcaster ordained

MANILA: 5th February 2008 -- On 2 February 2008, the Feast of the Visitation, Salesian anchor of the weekly radio program, "Bisperas sa Veritas", Rev. Bernard Nolasco SDB, 41, finally joined the ranks of ordained presbyters through the hands of Bishop Florentino Lavarias DD of the Diocese of Iba.
    Surrounded by family, confreres and friends encountered in his relatively long journey to the priesthood, Fr. Dranz, as he is popularly called, filled the St. John Bosco Parish Church Makati to capacity with over a thousand guests in attendance. Among the eager guests were his original companions from the Novitiate, all of whom were ordained ten years earlier in 1987 and his high school companions, who this year celebrate the silver jubilee of graduation from Don Bosco Techinical College in 1983.
    Fr. Dranz over these past three years has become a much awaited anchor in the weekly interactive radio program, Bisperas sa Veritas, which helps listeners prepare for the Sunday readings and liturgy. The program is produced by the Word and Life Publications and Ministry and is aired over the Catholic Radio Station Radio Veritas on Saturday evenings.
    Bishop Lavarias, an important companion of the new priest in his final years to ordination, reminded Fr. Dranz that the priesthood brings upon those who receive it a gift of attractiveness that will draw people to the priest. Because of this, there is the need to keep attached to Christ, who shares his priesthood and the attractiveness that it brings, an attachment that is reinforced through a serious life of prayer.
    In his response after the ordination ceremonies, Fr. Dranz thanked all who journeyed with him, patiently supporting him through the years and asked them to continue to do so as he assumes with enthusiam this new responsibility. 
    Significantly present and inspired by the touching ceremonies were a reinforced number of aspirants to the Salesian Life - candidates now once more encouragingly growing in numbers at the Don Bosco College Seminary at Canlubang (and who after a long time of absence have re-assumed the role of choir at a Salesian ordination) and from the different settings in the Philippine North Province, accompanied by their Salesian animators filled with renewed vigour in the promotion of vocations for the Lord, for Don Bosco and for the youth of the Philippines.
