Kolkata, India, 2 January 2024 -- The 9th Salesian Brothers’ Congress of the South Asia region is currently being held at Nitika Don Bosco, Kolkata, India. It is from 30 December 2023 to 3 January 2024. The theme of the congress is “The Salesian Brother in the 21st Century: Identity, Fidelity and Leadership”. There are 100 plus Salesian brothers from India and Sri Lanka present, together with some provincials and delegates for formation.
Fr. Biju Michael, SDB, the regional councilor for the South Asia region, gave the presidential address while Bro. Jean-Paul Muller, SDB, the economer general, gave the keynote address. Fr. Ivo Coelho SDB, the general councillor for formation and his collaborator Bro. Raymond Callo, SDB gave input regarding formation in general and the world situation of the Salesian Brothers. Fr Robert Pen, SDB, the regional coordinator for formation, is facilitating the group discussions in order to make them more concrete as lines of action.
There is a good atmosphere of fraternity and enthusiasm among the participants regarding the congress themes. There is also the wonderful presence of young Salesian brothers. It also helps that the weather is pleasant in Kolkata, the city of joy as well as the warm family atmosphere being created by the host province of Kolkata.
We hope and pray that the efforts of this congress may bear much fruit in terms of having more holy Salesian brothers at the service of poor youth.
