Jakarta, Indonesia, 2 October 2023 -- September is the month young people and basketball fans in Purworejo district have been waiting for. PERBASI (Indonesian Basketball Association) Purworejo branch held the most prominent basketball match in Purworejo, known as PBL (Purworejo Basketball League). The PBL, held 19-30 September 2023, is a meeting center for young basketball fans. Junior and senior high school students in Purworejo enthusiastically welcomed the activity.
No less enthusiastic, SMP Bhakti Mulia Purwodadi (Salesian School) welcomed the event by sending two junior high school boys teams representing the school. Team A has more senior players who participated in PBL events last year, while Team B is filled with new players. Preparations were made several months before the PBL was held.
Team B smoothly started the match in the charging round on 21 September 2023. They defeated the SMPN 4A basketball team with a score of 27:4. Furthermore, they were defeated by SMPN 2 on 23 September 2023 with a score of 38:10. On the other hand, team A started the match on 26 September 2023 and managed to defeat SMPN 11 with a score of 20:8. In the semifinals, Team A faced SMPN 4B and won with a score of 21:15.
In this final, team A faces the defending champion SMPN 2 Purworejo on 30 September 2023. Equipped with experience in last year's final and encouraged by maximum training, all players, coaches, and supporters are optimistic about winning the final this time. The fans of SMP Bhakti Mulia wearing red shirts were very enthusiastic and supported the players. The song "Salve Don Bosco Santo" became one of the songs sung by the supporters of SMP Bhakti Mulia in support of the players.
The match in the final went smoothly. Both teams presented a fantastic game to the fans and basketball fans in Purworejo district. From the beginning of the quarter, the difference in points was fragile and exchanged leads. The final match, this time, was won by SMPN 2 Purworejo. Even as the runner-up, the fans and basketball fans admired the game displayed by SMP Bhakti Mulia Purwodadi.
