East Boroko, Port Moresby, PNG, 6 September 2023 -- Similar to last year, 2022, and the previous years, Sports Fest Games was one of the highlights during the Don Bosco Week honoring the founding father of this wonderful Don Bosco Technological Institute (DBTI), St John Bosco. For this year, 2023, it was no different. Students from the seven technologies gave their best again and participated in the different sports, both the Indoor and Outdoor. There were five games played for the Indoor Sports, namely Table Tennis, Table Soccer, Badminton, Dart and Chess; and there were also five games played for the Outdoor Sports, namely Futsal, Touch 7s, Soccer 7s, Basketball and Volleyball.

The Sports Fest Games, specifically the Outdoor Sports, started in Semester 1, Week 11, Friday 28 April 2023, and the Indoor Sports started in Semester 2, Week 2, Friday 7 July 2023 alongside the Outdoor Sports; gearing up towards the Don Bosco Week where only the knock-outs, the eliminations and the finals were to be played. The students participated tirelessly by either actually playing the different sports, officiating or just cheering and supporting to ensure that their technology would go into the finals during the Don Bosco Week.

Finally came the Don Bosco Week (14-19 August 2023) and everyone, particularly the students, were all looking forward to the knock-outs, the eliminations, the semi-finals and the grand finals for the different games. All the Indoor Sports completed their finals on Wednesday with Information Technology (INF) winning 1st placing for both Table Tennis and Dart, Electrical Technology (ELT) for Table Soccer and Metal Fabrication and welding Technology (MFW) for both Badminton and Chess.

As for the Outdoor Sports, the Knock-outs, the Elimination Rounds, the Semi-Finals and the Grand Finals were all completed on Friday on a high note and everyone had a blast cheering for the technologies that won the grand finals for the different sports. The award presentations for the 1st and 2nd placings for the Outdoor Sports were done on Saturday, 19 August 2023, during the Family Day Celebrations where Maintenance Fitting & Machining Technology (MFM) took home the 1st placings for both Futsal and Touch 7s, Information Technology (INF) for Soccer 7s and Instrumentation Technology (INS) for both Basketball and Volleyball.

A job well done and a big thank you to the whole student body for your tireless effort, determination and discipline during the Friday Sports afternoons and the Don Bosco Week. Also to the Sports Committee and officials for your time and effort spent in organizing and officiating the games during this Don Bosco Week of Celebration to make it a success. THANK YOU ALL!!!
