EAO via ZOOM, 7 August 2022 -- On 4 August, 31 participants connected via the digital ZOOM platform for the 7th session of the EAO SC School of Formation. Father Henry Bonetti, sdb (Korea) and Fr Samuel Yu sdb Korea Social Communications delegate presented the session. The theme was: “Changing value systems and the need for a Christian worldview.”
The participants were invited to reject the ‘culture of death’ that neglects – in the words of Pope Francis – ‘the God of Life and despises the dignity of men, women and the young’.
Moral judgement, happiness or unhappiness, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Globalization, the confusion of values, a self-centered value system and Christian values was touched upon during the presentation. This led to sharing of experiences and discussion on what we as Social Communicators can do to help young people choose the right values.

“Korea is a country with a culture of 'speed and fastness'. Thanks to this 'quick culture', we were able to develop a high level of economic growth. ‘K-Pop’ or 'K-culture', is still dynamically developing, and is spreading rapidly around the world through media platforms such as Netflix”, said Maria Kim Kee-rim, Coworker of Don Bosco media in KOR. “Whenever a social issue occurs in Korea, it spreads all over the world through various media. The next day, the online witch hunt begins”, she continued.
“In an era of capitalism and materialism, the traditional, cultural, and humanistic resources of a society are often regarded as relative. However, the solidarity between the Salesian educators and the Social Communications team will help our young people discern the diverse voices in the digital world and accept Christian values”, said Fr Andrew Jang, sdb
If we want to love our lives more than we do now, we desperately need a digital world filled with the Christian values of love for God and love for neighbors. We have the important task of changing our Value system.
