By Fr. Mariano Soe Naing, SDB

Anisakan, Myanmar, 28 January 2021 -- Fr. Bosco Zeya Aung Nyi Nyi was installed as the 4th Superior of the Vice Province of Myanmar on 24 January 2021, at the Provincial House in Anisakan, Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar. The ceremony was stated at 5:30 p.m. ended.

The installation ceremony was held with the Eucharistic Celebration which was presided over by Fr. Charles Saw Thi Han Lwin, the outgoing Superior and concelebrated by 20 Salesians of the Vice province and attended by the members of the Salesian Family the boys of Nazareth and Girls of the neighboring Mornese Community of the FMA.

The celebration was held in a discreet manner. The guidelines and restrictive rules of the Covid-19 prevention and control is rather strict as Myanmar is still under serious threat of the pandemic. As a consequence, a good number of confreres could not come to participate physically in the ceremony. Instead, they had to follow the live streaming on the Facebook.

In his homily Fr. Charles said that the superior is like a captain of the football team. Each and every player is essential and important. The captain has the badge band on his arm and to oversee the situation of the match and the stamina of the players and encourage and advice accordingly. In the course of a match none can be forgotten and each one is counted. The confreres of the vice province are talented and playing their role with diligence and commitment. He urged the confreres to keep up the good will and continue to cooperate with the incoming Superior with dedication and generosity.

After the homily, Fr. Bosco made his profession of faith and assumed his responsibilities as Superior.

At the end of the Mass there were series of messages from the Rector Major, the Regional Councillor and from the outgoing and incoming Superiors.

In his message the Rector Major, Fr. Ángel, thanked Fr. Charles for his service as Superior for thepast six years and Fr. Bosco for his availability and accepting the Service of the Leadership. He also encouraged the confreres to keep up the enthusiasm and continue to work for the growth of the charism of Don Bosco on the land of Myanmar.

The Regional, Fr. Joseph Phuoc also thanked Fr. Charles for his service over the past six years and encouraged the confreres to look forward with hope by collaborating with the new Superior. He invites the confreres to live and work in communion in the vice province and with much trust in God who has been showering much graces on the vice province and each one. He also reminds to keep as vision the direction of GC28 to live out and share our charism as educators and pastors of the young.

Fr. Charles thanked everyone and pledged that he will continue to be a confrere of the vice province fulfilling whatever mission that would be entrusted to him. Fr. Bosco thank all who are present and who are praying from a distance for their prayers and love. He requested to continue to pray for him.

The celebration was graced by a greeting songs from the communities of Mornese and the Nazareth. A delicious dinner was served to all the participants.
