Christmas - from the edges of the 'empire'

QUETTA/ALAFUA:  23 December 2013 --  On the face of it, Quetta bordering on Afghanistan, and Apia bordering on, well, the Pacific Ocean (and the international date line), do not appear to have much in common. Earthquakes, maybe? Since they are East and West rather than North and South, we can hardly say they are poles apart! But believe it or not there's a website which enables you to compare Pakistan to Samoa! Not terribly enlightening, but an interesting way of comparing stats.

It is much more interesting to note that
Quetta is the westernmost point of the EAO Region, while Apia is the easternmost. Both have a Salesian community, provide outstanding educational facilities, and it just so happens that this year, both communities have initiated an e-newsletter.

Both newsletters bear the name Don Bosco, though in the case of Quetta, the other name in Urdu is Zindabar. In the Samoan case, you can go to their local website for more information (click on the image above). Quetta does not have its own website, but clicking on that image will take you to the Salesian UN presence which speaks about the work the Salesians are doing in Quetta.

And, as you can see, both are wishing thier readers a Happy Christmas.

Congratulations to these two o
utliers of the Region, and Happy Christmas from the rest of us!
