"The Person Who I admire: A Christian Priest - John Bosco"
        by Peeranut Kittivittayakul

Hat Yai: 11 September 2010 -- As promised, here are the two compositions by 12-year-old Thai students. even though they have been corrected by Sister Petra, maybe it's better to reproduce the work without the corrections; it gives one an appreciation of the fine standard of English these students are achieving under what is clearly a very competent teacher.  Remember, too, that these two essayists are Buddhists, so we have here an excellent example of inter-cultural and inter-religious dialogue, and at the very least a fine Saturday reflection on our life and mission!

"If you are Saengthong Vitthaya school's students, you will know this person. Every year we have a fair to recall John Bosco at Saengthong Vitthaya school. He is the founder of Salesian Order. In the past, he was a Catholic priest. But he wanted to work with youths. He saw kids in the streets that didn't have fathers or mothers. He wanted to give happiness to them. He wanted to help them to be happy like other children who were with their parents. So, he had his small school for the children who had no one to care for. Those children didn't pay any money to him. He was kind and children loved him very much. He inicated the mission of caring and working with the youths, and he imparted this charisian to his followers as Salesians, Saengthong Vitthaya school is one of the Salesian schools. Now, there are many Salesian schools around the world. It's one hundred and fifty years ago since his death. He was a good person and has been well known all over the world as the father of youths. He is a wonderful person that we should know".

"The person who I admire might not be famous or rich, but he is someone who has dedicated his life for children, Saint Don Bosco.
Saint Don Bosco was a traditional Italic priest. He opened a night school for boys in Valdocco. Later he opened several more schools and drew up a set of rules for his helpers, which became the rule of society of Saint Francis de Sales. Over the next decade the Salesians expanded into Austria, Britain, Spain and several more countries in South America and by 1911 the Salesians was estabilished throughout the world. Now it is the third largest missionary organization in the world.
I think Saint Don Bosco is a very fantastic man who lived in the world because he had a dream to help children all over the world and he fulfilled it. Even though he doesn't get a single penny from doing this he still continues to do whatever it takes to help children all around the world to have a better life and even though he passed away in 1888 his dream still lives on.
These are the reasons why I admire the magnificent man, God's messenger from heaven, to help the children of this world".
