Choral and vocational accompaniment: "Love is the answer"

CANLUBANG: 12 August 2010 -- Two brass bands accompanied the cohort of Salesian aspirants from the Philippines performing a choral rendition, "Love is the answer", for the visit of Frs Francis Cereda and Chrys Saldanha to the prenovitiate and postnovitiate at Canlubang in the Philippines North Province on the Feast of the Transfiguration.
The musical accompaniment to the event mirrored that other, more specific meaning of 'accompaniment' in religious discourse, a term which might include some or all of the following: to move with, to spend time with, to be on first name terms, to be trusted by people, to advocate for, to involve, to enjoy.... pretty much all of which on this occasion described the nature of the visit, from the moment of first appearance in the lobby, welcomed by aspiratns and prenovices, to the introduction by name of each of the young candidates, and then on to a question and answer session.
Fr Cereda then met with the prenovices, their Rector and the Salesian in charge of them on a day-to-day basis. He met separately with the formators, to get to know a little of the circumstances and how the formators witness to their role.
He then moved on to the postnovitiate community to repeat the exercise there. The day and the visit culminated in a joint community solemn vespers at the diocesan shrine of Mary Help of Christians and a dinner to follow.
It goes without saying that Fr Chrys 'accompanied' the entire event!
