Growing Salesian web presence in Khmer

SIHANOUKVILLE: 11 August 2010 -- We drew attention some time ago to the very first edition of the Khmer Salesian Bulletin. As explained, it is a web-only edition for two reasons, fundamentally, one being the lack of funds at the moment to produce a paper version, but the other and more positive reason being the extent of development in this area, both as regards the Salesian work in this country, and the virtual explosion of a Cambodian online presence (the internet first became available in Cambodia only in 1997).
Now the second edition of the Khmer Salesian Bulletin is available, and given that they asked for comments after the first edition, it seems not only that they received useful ones, but took note of them!  Even though almost everyone reading this will not be able to read and understand the Khmer script, it becomes immediately obvious that the layout and choice of content ('understandable' from the graphics alone) has improved.
The SB is also accompanied by a blog. Unfortunately (if my screen is any example) you won't get far with this unless you have Khmer script enabled and that's unlikely!  But the idea of accompanying the ISSUU-based pdf Bulletin with a blog is a good one.
Not associated directly with the Salesian Bulletin, but just to demonstrate how the Salesians are endeavouring to reach Cambodian youth today in the 'language' they understand well, along with the rest of the world's youth, you could check out the latest photo-report on the annual Basketball inter-sections game. There's a classic shot there of the revered Fr John Visser on a bike!

A reminder to readers to crank up their writing skills and get some news in - the much interrupted period over the last month of so is now at an end! At your service once more!
