Family Day in Bangkok takes up Strenna and Salesian Family Mission

BANGKOK: 19th February 2008
-- The past weekend saw a lively gathering of the extensive Salesian Family in Thailand at the Provincial House in Bangkok. Altogether some 200 members of eight groups of the family came together for a day of study of the 2008 Strenna and the Salesian Family mission.

The Salesian Family in Thailand comprises, other than the Salesians SDB and the Salesian Sisters FMA, Salesian Cooperators (ASC), Volunteers of Don Bosco (VDB), Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (SIHM), Daughters of the Queenship of Mary (DQM), the Mary Help of Christians Association (ADMA), and the various Federations of Past Pupils (SDB, FMA, SIHM, DQM). The Provincial Delegate for the Salesian Family, Fr Francis Cais, was responsible for convoking all groups to this year's Family Day, with a significant change from previous years: this year the decision has been made to concentrate all efforts into a single day instead of the twice yearly gathering of previous years.  ADMA was responsible for this year's Family Day.
The Thai Province has committed itself to translating all major documents of the Congregation into Thai, hence the Strenna for 2008 has already been translated, and recorded through the efforts of the Salesian Information Technology Centre.  Fr  Banchong Santisukniran followed on from an introductory word from the Provincial, Fr Depharat, with a study and explanation of the Strenna. The various Salesian Family groups then met separately to select key points and to agree upon strategies for carrying out the Strenna. The DVD of the Strenna, prepared by Missioni Don Bosco, has been reworked and translated into Thai, so all who participated in the day had a chance to watch the local version.
In the afternoon, Fr Cais explained the contents of a book translated into Thai some years ago - on the Salesian Family Mission.  The day concluded with the Eucharist at which the Provincial presided.
