Following the presentation of the situation of the missions in the East Asia-Oceania region, and another interesting presentation of those Vietnamese Salesians involved in mission “ad gentes” (in around 13 countries), the participants were divided into groups to share their reflection on the Salesian missions. Lively exchange of ideas and proposals showed that the participants were really in high spirit for missions.
The peak of the day came at the end of the Eucharistic celebration when five post-novices solemnly approached the altar to present their letter of application to be missionaries “ad gentes”. [As is well known, over the last few years a good number of young Salesians who applied for missions were from this community. Fr. Klement, the Regional Councilor for East Asia-Oceania, has already named it as the community for missionaries]. The community was filled with profound joy to witness the courageous commitment of these young confreres who, in spite of their limitations, have allowed God’s call to be efficient in their daily life. They prayed that there would be more and more Salesians generously respond to God's call to become missionaries for the sake of the young in need. They also believed that those five confreres will not be the last of their batch, since some of their classmates (in the last year of the post-novitiate program) have not yet put their commitment in writing.
