Cross-region meeting on Volunteers at Kochi

KOCHI: 7th March 2007 -- The regions of South Asia and East Asia-Oceania have been represented by some 40 participants at a meeting on Voluntary Service held in Kochi, Kerala (India), from 3rd - 6th March.  The Departments of the Missions and Youth Ministry from Rome have been represented by Fr Francis Alencherry, Missions Councillor, Fr Dominic Sequeira and Fr Jose Luis Anguiano from the Youth Ministry Department, both of whom have stood in for Fr Antonio Domenech who is battling serious ill health at the moment.
Participants at the meeting have been tackling an updated document on voluntary service, a phenomenon which has grown considerably in recent years as a Salesian proposal to young adults in particular, and a fruit of Salesian Youth Ministry. The aim, based on a thorough study of the document, is to arrive at a concrete plan for voluntary service at province level for the 13 provinces represented at the meeting.
From the EAO Region there are three representatives from each of the Philippines North, Thailand and Korea provinces - that is a total of nine Salesians from EAO. The remainder of the participants are from South Asia and more particularly from India itself.
