Serial blasts in Mumbai - Salesians safe

MATUNGA: 12th July 2006 --  The Provincial Social Communications Policy, one of the best examples of such a policy in operation at Province level, has swung into action in the wake of yesterday's train bombings.  The Bosco Information Service (BIS), incoporated into the policy for Mumbai province, has the following to say - extracting other more general information that can be found in daily news reports:
 "The blasts took place in a span of 30 minutes, between 6 pm and 6.30 pm, in first class compartments of suburban trains on the western line between Matunga and Mira Road.. The blasts occurred at Matunga, Mahim, Bandra, Khar, Borivili, Jogeshwari and Mira Road railway stations....This is the line that is frequented by many of the Salesians and those working and studying in our institutions. Fortunately no Salesian was affected by last evening's blast. There are no reports of casualties from our Salesian institutions in Mumbai. All our institutions are functioning normally. According to the Mumbai Police, 190 people are dead and another 625 injured.  All schools and colleges are open and the city is limping back to normalcy, indicating that the situation in the city is well under control".
    It is good to know that some degree of normality has been quickly resumed, but with the Provincial Centre and so many Salesian works strung along the line, and given the extreme death and injury toll, the situation must be deeply affecting the Salesian Family there at many levels.  Readers are invited to express their thoughts via Boscowiki.
