Preparing for World Social Communications Day 28th May:  Networking for the three C's

ROME: 16th May 2006 -- In keeping with his already proven ability to 'hit the nail on the head', Pope Benedict XVI has written a short, magnificent and to the point Message for Sunday 28th May, World Communications Day.  It behoves each of us to read this message and think of ways of implementing it in practice, especially in a region where we rely so much on modern communications.  Without them this region would be a region on paper only - and wet, soggy paper at that!
There is little point repeating the contents of that letter here.  You can find it at www.vatican.va from whence you should go to Papal archives, Benedict XVI, Messages and there you will find the 40th WCD message, "Media: networking for Communication, Communion and Cooperation".
But more to the point - what can we do about it?  WCD is an important day in our annual calendar.  The Salesian Social Communications System framework, the true vademecum of Salesian Communications today, has a whole section (#94) on animation and management of SC in external relations, which amongst other things speaks of "participation in events and ecclesial and social movements in the Social Communications field which have relations with education and pastoral ministry".  WCD is one such event. Two other supportive documents which form part of the 'system' for us, the Formation to SC Guidelines, and the Handbook for Provinces - all three documents by the way are available on www.sdb.org - speak specifically of WCD as one notable moment for Salesians to put theory into practice.
And more to the point still!  Five small, readable, colourful and well-produced pamphlets covering topics which are central to the Communications-Communion-Cooperation triangle are available for you to read and reproduce from Bosconet.  You may either choose the link just indicated or go to the homepage and look for What's new on the site this week.
These five pamphlets are in PDF and have been produced in line with the principles and the processes outlined in the pamphlets.  They model what they talk about!  The topics are Revolutionising our Document Systems 1-insight2-in practice, and 3-collaborative options, plus 'Open' principles in practice, and Learning a new language - markup.  There's no copyright.  Make whatever use you wish of them.
