KOLKATA: 4TH sEPT. 2005 -- Past Pupils from Kolkata are pleased to announce that on 4th of September, 2005 a dream comes true as they inaugurate a statue of Don Bosco in the main street outside the Don Bosco School Park Circus, Kolkata, India, one of the cities of Don Bosco's Dreams. It joins other such statues in metropolitan areas, though it may be hard to compare a megametropolis like Kolkata with, say Turin, where the Past Pupils first set the trend of a major statue to our Father and Founder in a city square. The Kolkata project was taken up by the National President, Rajesh Gupta, on behalf of the Alumni as a way of saying thank you and expressing their gratitude to their Alma Mater with a statue of Don Bosco in the centre of the city on the occasion of Centenary of Don Bosco in India.
It has taken three months to complete the statue and the configuration is unique, indeed an absolutely new concept in design compared to other statues of Don Bosco. This statue has four figures one, of course, Don Bosco, the other three a tribal girl, a city school boy and a technical institute student: all aspects of Don Bosco's educational development covered in a way that responds to the Indian culture.
