COME & SEE WITH A DIFFERENCE

SUVA: 6th April -- When the Fiji Salesian community included in its planning the schedule of 'Come & See' events for 2003, discussion turned to just what young Fijians might want to 'come & see' - besides the obvious!  The feeling was that the Salesian charism was beginning to be very attractive to many categories of young adult in this country.  So when community members were asked to nominate individuals for the first event, the names included, in addition to the clear-cut 'vocation' propspects, three women, one married man and one Hindu young adult.
After some discussion, the event was termed 'Glimmers of God' and a programme was developed that would explore the 'Holy Ground' upon which we stand when we sense a calling God.  Eight persons came to the weekend.  An outstanding feature of the event was the faith-sharing - from the many perspectives that one might expect from such a diverse group.  The young Hindu participant has taken a further step in his attraction to the Catholic and Christian Faith.  His path, like that of his best friend several years ago which eventually led to baptism, is being traversed by means of close friendship with vibrant young Salesians of the community.
There was one more factor in the attraction of this diverse group - the growth of the Don Bosco Movement which next week mounts a major intervention on behalf of Suva youth in a leadership training day of some 200 local school leaders.  This is timed to coincide with World Youth Day and the nation's own National Youth Day.  C&S participants, then, after considering 'Holy Ground', wrote their own personal mission statement to give direction to their call.
