Pacific biblicists enjoy 'feast' of international scholarship

SUVA: 28th August 2006 --  Pacific Theological College Suva (PTC), Fiji Islands, one of the major theological centres for Protestant and Reformed Churches in the Pacific Island zone was today the setting for a true biblical 'feast' in international scholarship.  The Biblical Association of Fiji welcomed international biblical scholar Fr Francis J Moloney SDB, as he used the opportunity of a visit to the Salesian community in Fiji to address Pacific theologians on St. John's Gospel.
Another biblical scholar of international repute, specialising in the Book of Revelations (Apocalypse), Fr Donal MacIlraith SSC was also present, indeed the chief organiser of the gathering, since he lives in Fiji and teaches at the joint Diocesan and Religious Seminary, Pacific Regional College (PRC), located a few doors down from PTC.  Joint activities involving research, teaching and fellowship are common between the two theological institutions.
Dr. Tevita Havea, principal of PTC, welcomed Fr Moloney, noting that it was a rare occasion to be able to profit from the physical presence of a scholar of Dr Moloney's stature in the biblical world, especially regarding St John's Gospel.  A number of students of both Colleges were also present, as it is particularly in the area of biblical studies that the two Colleges share their resources.
