austraLasia #2441

The ever-evolving world of the web

ROME: 17th June 2009  -- We have just finished a brief session with the General Council who are closely watching developments on the www.sdb.org site, as indeed they might, since, along with ANS, it is a virtual voice of the Congregation.  As a reader of austraLasia you are, no doubt, also a user of the Congregation's websites.  In fact the Rector Major, who expressed keen interest and general satisfaction (and is clearly a daily user of these two sites) had some particular questions regarding the new developments. We trust that like him, you too have gone to the site and voted on the direction all this is taking.
Which brings me to the region's websites, a number of which have also been under development over these months.  And here, another plea, please, both for austraLasia but also for sdb.org which carries links to every Salesian website throughout the world - or tries to!
Only today, in preparation for the meeting mentioned above, we attempted to connect to all Salesian websites in the Region.  In some instances we discovered that the link we have, which was once correct, is no longer correct!  Or that a site no longer exists, or that in factc new sites have sprung up.
In any of the above instances, it is not a communication that can be left entirely to the Holy Spirit.  Sometimes by fiddling around with a URL we can 'divine' a change that has taken place in recent weeks or months.  Other times we cannot.
Could we ask, please, that those who are responsible for the websites of the EAO Region go to the LINKS section on sdb.org, check whether or not your site is listed, try the link, then let us know if either the site is unlisted or the link is inaccurate.  We would very much like to ensure that the information we have is accurate.
