Don Bosco Educator, Spiritual Master, Writer and Founder of the Salesian Society

ROME: 29th February 2008 -- Salesian Studies in the English language for the general reading public has certainly taken a great leap forward in the past year with the publication of the initial volumes in the 'Lenti' series: Don Bosco History and Spirit.  Volume 3, DB Educator, Spiritual Master, Writer and Founder of the Salesian Society, has just been published. [Arthur J. Lenti SDB, Berkeley , Don Bosco Hall, USA]
The public availability of this third volume is timely, in the sense that it has arrived precisely as 200 plus representatives from around the Salesian Society are gathered around the theme of educating according to Don Bosco's heart. The entire volume is relevant to the theme: Chapter 1 - the Regulations for the Boys' Oratory and early educational and devotional writings; Chapter 2 - The decade 1850-1861 and its importance; Chapter 3 - Developments at the 'Home Attached' to the Oratory 1852-62; Chapter 4 - Don Bosco Educator and Spiritual Master; Chapter 5 - Don Bosco Spiritual master in the education of the young; Chapter 6 - Don Bosco's writing activity in the 1850's counteracting the liberal anticlerical press; Chapter 7 - Don Bosco's apologetic and polemical writings against the Waldenses; Chapter 8 - Origins of the Salesian Society .. a Congregation of Oratory collaborators; Chapter 9 - The founding of the Salesian Society 1859.
As readers are aware, these volumes are being made available within the EAO and SA Regions at a modest price.  They can also be obtained directly from LAS, Rome.  For details of purchase, go back to austraLasia #1992 in SDL.

There is another item 'out there' which we are working on, but it will take some time.  It is an unpublished address by Fr Pietro Stella on the role of the Biographical Memoirs now that so much historical-critical work has been done.  This will be a valuable additional item to add to the expanding galaxy of material available in English.  You will hear of it once it is available.
