Twinned parishes of Himonya-Tetere: forging relationships between Japan and Solomon Islands
-     Fr. Ambrose Pereira sdb

TETERE (SI): 5 July 2005 --  Fr. Loro Piana sdb, Parish priest of Himonya Church, Tokyo, Japan together with Mr. Sekine Tatsuo, chairman of the Parish Council – spent a few days at Christ the King parish, Tetere, from 23rd to 28th June, 2005.  While there they paid a visit to Talaura and Sali villages to interact and spend time with the people.
“Seeing things first-hand has given me a clearer understanding of reality.  The people are kind and friendly.  It’s a joy to see the innocence in the eyes of the little children not contaminated by modern civilization.  We can at times be selfish and it is amazing to see the people living and interacting in the village with simple basic facilities.  I am eager to share these memories with the others in Tokyo”, said an enthusiastic Mr. Tatsuo.  “The people of Tetere need our cooperation.  It is nice that they want to work and that they are interested and eager to get a skill”, he continued.
“I am impressed by the great development, both in the parish and at the school at Henderson”, stated Fr. Loro Piana.  “We hope that the relationship between our parish in Himonya and Tetere will continue.  Besides our support, we are blessed as the parish prays a Hail Mary every second Sunday and every village a rosary for our intentions”.
Three years ago Himonya church had donated two generators to the parish – one to the Tetere parish and the other to Don Bosco school, Henderson.  They look forward to assisting in different ways in future thus forging bonds of relationship that already exists. “Material exchange is good, but the spiritual exchange is even greater”, states Fr. Loro Piana.
