Japan: Shroud book published by Kodansha

TOKYO: 17th June 2007 -- Japan's largest publisher, Kodansha, has just published, in Japanese version, The Man of the Shroud - is it Jesus Christ?, by Fr Gaetano Compri SDB.  Fr Compri, already well-known for his role in promoting a knowledge of and the Cause for Beatifcation and Canonisation of Mons. Cimatti, has long been a devotee of the Holy Shroud of Turin.  The publication of this book marks an important moment in Japanese appreciation of the spiritual and also scientific interest surrounding the Shroud in recent years.
The new book has high quality illustrations and is presented in a way that has been adapted to an audience which is largely non-Christian.  Fr Compri, writing recently to austraLasia about the book, hopes that through it some of the message of Jesus may also reach its readers.  The book contains large colour as well as black and white representations of both parts of the Shroud, with indications of the photographic positive and negative views. The book is already available through major Japanese bookshop and retail outlets.
The editing of the work was given to mainly Japanese writers, on the basis of material offered by Fr Compri.  He himself wrote the Scriptural part as well as the history and the conclusion.  Fr Compri did the final revision of all the text to ensure overall objectivity.
