Australian dentist applauds Salesian care in East Timor
 
Melbourne: 15th March '04 -- It was a chance meeting between the writer and a past pupil of one of the Salesian schools in Melbourne.  The young man had recently graduated with first class honours in engineering from Melbourne University, and his fiancee in dentistry.  She had spent some time in East Timor as part of an Australian team sent there to assist the country with the dental health of the new nation's school children.  When Rebecca saw 'Don Bosco' emblazoned on this writer's shirt, she told of her experience at Los Palos.  "Of all the schools and institutions I visited and inspected for dental health, this was the best" Rebecca said.  She spoke words of praise for the Salesian director of the orphanage and his practical, informed attitude to dental health via a correct diet and the provision of tooth brushes for all the children.
Rebecca, it turns out, is a Jewish girl, and was initially uncertain as to how she would be received in such a Catholic country.  She could not have felt more encouraged, especially by her reception amongst the Salesians she met.
