139th Mission expedition of significant interest to EAO

ROME: 11th September 2008 -- Confreres are arriving in Rome from various parts of the world as they prepare for the brief course (14-24 September) for new missionaries in Rome then head up to Turin and Colle Don Bosco between 25-28 of the month to receive their mission cross. Of the 32 total members of the 139th Expedition, one is already in place in Ecuador (from ITM) and will not come to Rome/Turin, another two who are included in this expedition (one from VIE another from CEP) have already been through the 'mission' formalities, while a further four, all from VIE, will take part only in the ceremony in the Basilica at Valdocco.
What is of particular interest to the EAO region this year is to note that of the 32, 21 are from EAO, and we might add that a further 5 are from South Asia, so wrapping Asia and Oceania together, there is little doubt as to where the main 'sending' strength is coming from this year! Other provinces sending out missionaries this year are: AFW and AGL, both African provinces, and ICP (Italy), SBI (Spain), GER (Germany) and CEP (Czech Republic).
The destinations are also interesting.  8 of the 32 will be sent within Asia and Oceania; Middle East is included in Asia (3 from Vietnam are going to MOR). Other 'receiving' locations in EAO are Cambodia (4), Mongolia (2), Hong Kong (1), Pakistan (1), PNG-SI: one to PNG the other to SI (2).  The remainder are going to Africa (8), the Americas (3) and Europe - Hungary (2) France (4).
Amongst the total group, 23 are in various stages of initial formation right through to final years of theology. 6 are Brothers already well along the track.
The largest sending Province, then is Vietnam, with a total of 16 forming part of the 139th mission. 4 of these have already been in France, their place of mission, since 2007.
