Generall House in Rome, 18 July 2016 -- Rector Major Don Angel Fernandez, SDB, presided the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at the conclusion of the three-day convention of VIDES (Volontariato Internazionale Donna Educazione Sviluppo) held at Salesianum, La Pisana, Roma, Italia, from July 16-18, 2016. He warmly welcomed Mother General Sr. Yvonne Reungoat, FMA, all the Salesian Sisters and VIDES Volunteers, and expressed his joy in having all of them feel so at home at Salesianum. Rev. Fr. Klement Vaclav efficiently translated the message of the Rector Major to the English speaking groups.
The Rector Major encouraged the volunteers to continue to build the civilization of love, in accord with their chosen theme “Love your neighbour as yourself”, but firmly reminded them to work primarily as sons and daughters of God, and not just as an NGO (non-government organization). He expressed his admiration and appreciation for the Salesian Sisters and VIDES volunteers, particularly for their passion for the promotion of and education to human rights at local and international levels, and their initiatives for peace, justice, and ecology especially in the face of inequality, violence, and lack of care for others and the environment.
