Bangkok, Thailand, 2 January 2024 -- Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the Thai economy has not recovered fully yet. This situation was aggravated by the influx of people from the provinces into Bangkok and vicinities. They sought the betterment of their lives, but also they caused the concentration of people in the capital. These people struggle and adapt in different ways. Some have to limit their spending; some others look for an additional job. Some live in rented old houses in the slum areas amidst the civilization of Bangkok. There are many poor people who lack resources.
On 29 December 2023, the Salesian PDO provided food bags to 120 families of poor Burmese, Laotian and Cambodian laborers and people with disabilities under the project "Share Love on Christmas." They lived around the area of Mary Help of Christians Church, which is composed mostly of Muslim and Buddhist descent. The food packages were prepared by the church's youth group.
The food packages have been received from good-hearted people. Although these shared goods cannot completely alleviate the needs of these poor people, yet, these are valuable and meaningful to the children of Don Bosco, who are also on the side of the poor in Thai society.
