Cebu City's DB Technology Centre's first - and very successful - Engineering graduates

CEBU CITY: 21st October 2007 -- Good news indeed for Don Bosco Technology Centre (DBTCI), Cebu City, one of only four educational centres throughout the Philippines offering a Bachelor of Science in Technical Education as well as a much appreciated five year specialisation in Mechanical Engineering. Results announced this past week for the latter show that fourteen out of fifteen graduate students passed their final exams.  The pass rate for this first-ever batch of ME students, 93.3%, puts DBTCI as second in the nation in the field.
DBTC leadership feels that the decision to set up the Mechanical Engineering course has been well vindicated.  Mechanical Engineering is regarded as an important specialisation for the Philippines' fast-developing economy.  It is not the only specialisation of the Centre.  There are courses in Agriculture as well as Electrical  and Industrial Engineering which quickly followed the institution of the Mechanical Engineering course.  The first graduations for these later courses are due next year.
The very first course introduced by the Centre was a Bachelor of Science in Technical Education.  It is a four year course involving studies in both technology and education.  Close on 200 students have passed through this course, producing many good teachers for technical education centres throughout the nation, and helping to staff the 11 such centres run by the Salesians.
It is interesting to note that of the four B.Sc in Tech. Ed courses being offered in the Philippines, two of them are offered by Salesian institutions: one in the Northern Philippines Province (FIN) at Canlubang, and the other at the DBTCI in Cebu City, part of the Southern Philippines Province (FIS).
