A poem about a passionate lover
(we have your attention - now read on)

JHARKHAND (India): 2nd March 2007 --  In the course of a day, a week, austraLasia receives many interesting news items.  Just once in a while someone sends along something a little different, as is the case today.  We well know that the Rector Major travels the Salesian world in an endeavour, in the first place, to understand it well in order to guide it well.  As he does so, and insistently repeats certain points, they impact on people - especially his insistence on 'passion'.  The following comes from the Director of the Don Bosco Youth and Educational Services in Jharkhand, where the Rector Major has recently visited.  Thanks to Fr Johny Padinjareparampil, and avid reader and occasional contributor to austraLasia, for this offering - Fr Pascual Chavez as he was impressed by him:

“No impact, if not passionate.”

He said in a firm gentle voice

Impact me, he did, for sure

As a passionate lover of youth and life

His presence was the message

His talks, the clear ringing voice

Of the values he cherishes and lives

He walked his talk

As he moved among us

Winning our hearts

And stirring us from within

With his prophetic gestures

And simple, gentle, winning ways

Then I heard a soft whisper in my heart

It’s Don Bosco! Yes, he is alive again

As a light house showing the way

A clarion call to wake up and walk

His visit was short

But the ripples it caused

In the ocean of my heart

Will go on till they reach those shores

Where we all will rest one day
