Lahore, Pakistan, 1 February 2021 -- The Salesians of Don Bosco from the Pakistan communities of Lahore and Quetta celebrated the Solemnity of St. John Bosco, founder of the Salesian Congregation, who died 133 years ago.

Due to the pandemic's health emergency, the celebration was held outdoors with solemnity and joy.

The Archbishop of Lahore, Sebastian Shaw presided at the Holy Mass, concelebrating with him were our Parish Priest of Youhababad, the Dean of Studies of the Diocesan Major Seminary, the Rector of the Jesuit community in Lahore and some other priests, brothers and sisters of various religious communities, as well as Representatives of the Salesian Family of Alumni and Salesian Cooperators aspirants.

Of course, many of our friends, teachers, students were present and the group of aspirants to the Salesian Religious as well.

One of the most important symbolic acts of the day was the delivery of the document containing the annual report of the activities and achievements of our institutions.

Rev. Fr. Samuel Adnan SDB reminded all during the Homily that we “must be moved by Hope” because God's promises are fulfilled and fill people's hearts with happiness. Likewise, the life of St. John Bosco was full of hope and the Salesians in the world continue their example by bringing to the young people joy, so that God's promises can continue to be fulfilled, especially in the young people most in need. Fr. Samuel invited those present to continue to support those most in need by giving them the opportunity to continue training and studying at our Salesian institutes in Lahore and Quetta.

Bishop Sebastian thanked the Salesians for their qualified presence in Pakistan over the last 21 years and invited the young people to move forward following the example of St. John Bosco, a poor and humble young man, but with great ideals and always willing to improve.

After the Solemn Mass Celebration, a cultural program was presented for some of our students followed by a high tea sharing.
