KOR Provincial elected head of Major Superiors in Korea

SEOUL: 10th December 2009 -- The Korean Conference of Major Superiors of Men's Religious Institutes and Societies of Apostolic Life (KCMS) held its 2009 Autumn Plenary Assembly at the conference hall of the Society of St. Francis de Sales in Seoul from November 4 to 5, 2009. At the assembly Fr. Stephen Nam Sang-woo, Provincial Superior of the Salesians in Korea, was nominated as the 15th President of the KCMS. He will hold the office for two years starting from January, 2010.
Fr. Nam made his final profession in 1992 and was ordained priest in 1995. He studied dogmatics and moral theology at Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule Benediktbeuern and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München in Germany respectively and received a doctorate in moral theology. Since 2008 he has been the Provincial of the Salesians in Korea.
In an interview with the Catholic Peace Weekly, Fr. Nam said, "I will try to find a way of presenting the witness and charism of religious life in the reality of the Church in Korea. …… Especially, I hope that I can communicate in a deep way the Word of God to the heart of youth, pondering how best to show the 2000 year-old face of Jesus to youth through youth movements."

In other news: if you go to the EAO Blog you will be able to catch up on two latest items of interest, one an insight into what a postmodern 'academy' might look like for the Marian feasts, with the tantalising title 'Fullblown shindig on the eve of the Immaculate', and another, a new serialisation starting today of the ever readable Fr Nick Castelijns as he 'signs off' from Salelologa to take up another parish appointment in Samoa. Gain precious insights into Pacific island life, Salesian activity through heartfelt missionary musings!
