Dear Father Provincial and beloved confreres!

Receive my heartfelt greetings from Australia, after two full weeks of the extraordinary visitation. I’m happy to get from most of our provinces continuous flow of news about many significant events happening in Don Bosco Jubilee Month of August 2015. Thanks to God!

I’m writing few days after one of the natural disasters in our Region hit Myanmar. One of our presences in Kalay Myo (State of Chin) is intact, but is located almost at the heart of one hardly hit zone also with quite big numbers of Catholic population. Last January 2014 the Rector Major (Fr. Chávez) publishes simple guidelines about the Salesian action in situation of Emergencies, see the EMERGENCY GUIDELINES on the Boscolink.

According the MYM Vice-Province superior - Fr. Charles Saw (sdb.sawcharles@gmail.com) - the confreres are ready to help and the first assessment of the immediate needs is complete. Knowing the lack of financial resources in Myanmar Catholic Church and our Vice-Province, I have written yesterday to the Rector Major, Economer General and Councilor for the Missions. And I’m happy to share their immediate strong positive reply. One of the major Salesian Mission Offices (G5: Torino, Madrid, Bonn, New Rochelle, New Delhi) already sent first concrete financial help!

According our EAO Regional Vision-Mission the inter-provincial solidarity is among the main common goals. This letter is an invitation to express our solidarity with Myanmar brothers and sisters who are in need. Through the Salesian solidarity some 20.000 local population in the Chin state might be helped.

Ongoing information, reporting with accurate accountability will be provided in next days by the MYM Vice-province.

Also timely visit to Myanmar by the General Economer office staff is scheduled for next Aug 21. Here are the details for the funds transfer for the MYM solidarity through SDB in Hong Kong:

  • Bank account title: Salesian Society (Hong Kong)
  • Bank: Industrial Commercial Bank of China
  • Account number: 701 530013345
  • SWIFT code: UBHKHKHH

  • Please, use only the “support flood victims” and nothing else to write on the transfer vouchers!

May this solidarity bring deeper meaning to Don Bosco 200th Birthday celebrations in the EAO!
