FIS province Brothers Encounter 2018

By Bro. Louie Domasian, SDB

Cebu, the Philippines, 26 March 2018 -- 3Rs: To Remember, Renew and Rekindle, these was the running theme of the Salesian Brothers Assembly and Convocation of the Philippine South Province (FIS) for the EAO Salesian Brothers Congress 2018. It was held during the Solemnity of St. Joseph last March 19, 2018 at the Don Bosco Provincialate. The event was well attended by nine Salesian Brothers of the 12 belonging to FIS province. Together with them were Fr. Godo Atienza, SDB - FIS Provincial, Fr. Eugene Maglasang, SDB - Delegate to Pakistan, Fr. Rosmon Valenciano, SDB – FIS Vocation Promoter, Fr. Mel Racelis, SDB – Rector of DBFC (Formation Delegate FIS) and Fr. Philip Lazatin, SDB – Novice Master.

It was a time of Remembering and reviewing the past resolutions and the salient points of the past EAO Salesian Brothers Congresses. It was also an opportunity to Renew the zeal and commitment of the delegates on the one Salesian Vocation as they reflected upon the document of Fr. Andrea Bozzolo, SDB: The dual form of the Salesian Vocation. After all of these, there was a Rekindling of the promise and commitment of strengthening the animating presence and visibility of the Salesian Brothers in the Province.

The assembly began with a Mass in honor of St. Joseph. Fr. Provincial was the main celebrant and homilist while it was cocelebrated by the other priests present. After the Mass, Bro. Louie Domasian, SDB facilitated the event and guided the assembly in all of the activities of the day. Fr. Provincial gave his message to the assembly and during the convocation, he challenged and tasked the Salesians present to ensure the growth of the Salesian Vocation in the province not just in number but in the religious life as well with a special emphasis on the Salesian Brother Vocation.

The assembly of the Brothers ended with the following resolutions:

  1. Have an annual assembly of Salesian Brothers to be held at Lawaan.
  2. Salesian Brothers will regularly visit the Novitiate to spend some time with the novices.
  3. Promote the weekend stay of vocation prospects with the Salesians in the local communities.
  4. Be active in the vocation campaigns in the local level and in the organization of vocation camp which will be organized by the Vocation Promoter.
