First Salesian Parish Priest in the Diocese of Surabaya-Indonesia

SURABAYA (Indonesia): 20 April 2010 --  Fr Noel Villafuerte SDB was installed as the new pastor of St Michael's Parish,
Tanjung Perak, Surabaya City, during the Sunday evening Mass, parishioners filling the church till its threshold.
    Bishop
Vincentius Wikaksono of Surabaya appointed him as new parish priest for the community living near the city's seaport. It is interesting to note that the bishop was entrusting the parish of his childhood years to the Salesians and that he had informally invited the Salesians to his diocese one week after he was appointed bishop of this diocese. His enthusiasm for education and the youth bear traces of the Bosconian spirit.
The Provincial, Fr. Andres Calleja, took the opportunity after the Mass to thank the Bishop for his support and trust in the Salesians. He presented to his Excellency a replica of the Don Bosco statue made for the occasion of the GC26. Fr. Andres in his speech, mentioned that it was fitting that St Michael's Parish and the Technical School in Blitar (both in the Diocese of Surabaya) would officially begin during this year's celebration of the 25 years of SDB presence in Indonesia. It is a good sign of the flourishing future of SDB's in Indonesia.
Present on this occasion were the Salesians from East Timor, Sunter and Blitar, Salesian Cooperators, benefactors and friends.
