"A good word mixes well with good food" - become virtual chaplain to a food chain!

PAKKRED (THA): 13th January 2006 --  As the Feast of journalists, St. Francis de Sales, approaches,  here is a story to warm the heart, following hot on yesterday's story of 'Commendator Colombo' with the world's only pizzeria-cum-printing press!  The ways of the Lord are infinite and unpredictable.  Fr Charles Velardo who has featured before in austraLasia, you may recall, for his wonderful work running the Centre for the Blind at Pakkred in Thailand, had a chance encounter almost a year ago with the executive chef of a hotel belonging to a prestigious worldwide chain.  During the conversation, the chef told him that he was the president of a group of Italian chefs scattered around the world.
The characteristic feature of this group was that it was a virtual group using the Internet for all its communications and contact.   Would he be interested in being chaplain to this group?  "After all" said the chef, "a good word mixes well with good food".  Needless to say, Fr Velardo accepted with alacrity, thereby becoming the virtual chaplain of more than 500 Italian chefs around the world, spanning all continents.  Eat your heart out, good reader!
Father V. pops a message into the ether from time to time, both as a reply to personal messages and as his own contribution to ongoing discussion by the group on the web.  He has been much heartened by the response.  He knows for sure that he is read, even by those who would keep religion out of their kitchens and far from their lives as well.
Does the virtual chaplain taste gourmet food?  But of course - virtually!  He assures austraLasia that if you are looking for a good diet, you should try it.  It is not fattening.

VOCABULARY
alacrity: fast, eagerly
