Slovenia-Vatican-Vietnam (World), 19 November 2020 -- The Salesian Family of Slovenia and Vietnam rejoice with a new step in the canonization process for the Servant of God, Slovenian missionary Fr Andrej Majcen (1904-1999). Exactly 10 years after the official opening of the process in 2010 (Ljubljana, Slovenia) the Congregation for the Saints (Vatican) recognized the validity of the diocesan procedure last October 23rd.
Indeed after the hard work of the Salesians in Slovenia (Vice-postulator - Fr Alojzije Slavko Snoj) and in Vietnam (first Fr Dominic Uyen and recently Fr Giuse Dung) last October 2019 46 large volumes of documentation about the life and virtues of the Servant of God were produced and delivered.
In Vietnam, where Fr. Majcen is venerated by many Bosconians - Past Pupils as the 'Don Bosco of Vietnam', there is a feeling of joy and enthusiasm for this new step ahead in the process. Fr Giuse Dung put it clearly: "This step is encouraging us to advance in our personal path of sanctity." 'Majcen Day' has been celebrated on the 30th of each month in the VIE province since Fr. Andrej passed away on Sept 30, 1999 and one TVET (hospitality section) in Ho Chi Minh City is under his name.
While in Slovenia, former provincial and present vice-postulator Fr Snoj is grateful for the synergy from Vietnam for their contribution to the diocesan stage of the process and invites all to pray through the intercession of the Servant of God.
The Postulator General, Fr. Pier Luigi Cameroni, is happy with 'no comments' from the Congregation to this important diocesan stage and is preparing to complete, God willing, within one year the work on the 'Positio' (comprehensive summary of the life and virtues necessary for the Servant of God).
44 years of missionary life in China, Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam (North and South) is a marvelous inspiration for new missionary vocations and the last 20 years of Fr Majcen as missionary animator and confessor in his homeland is a valid inspiration for our confreres involved in missionary animation. We are called to share the wonderful resources produced by the Slovenian province (some available on the Boscolink) like interview, cartoons, short biographies, videos or novena prayers.
