First vocational fruits from Salesian Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: 13th August 2009 -- After 18 years of patient work, including more recently setting up the Don Bosco Brother Sun House for prospective vocations to Salesian life, it seems the first fruits are in evidence.  Fr John Visser will be accompanying the first three Cambodian aspirants to Salesian life to the Salesian Formation Centre Lawaan, Talisay Cebu, in the Philippines at the end of this month.
It is interesting that the three represent, are the result of, contact with Salesian work in Sihanoukville, Poipet and Phnom Penh.  All three have relatively recently come to faith and sought baptism, which is no surprise in the Cambodian situation.  Two of them are directly involved as assistants in Salesian work and are themselves products of that work.  A third is a past pupil who now seeks to join Salesian life.  Nor is it just the case that these three will be heading off to begin their vocational journey.  Another four will take their place at 'Brother Sun', as they explore the initial moments of 'call' as they finish their two year technical education course with the Salesians.
We rejoice with the confreres in Cambodia for this significant step, aware of all the road still ahead.
It is not the only good news from Cambodia.  The AV Studios that were destroyed by fire in May have been rebuilt and are back in use. The new Centre aims at audio and video production to promote the Salesian charism and support the work and campaigns promoted by Don Bosco for children and young people generally of Cambodia.  The studios will also offer a service to organisations and instituations who wish to rent them, or request technical services.
