Australia: Governor selects 'spirituality and pastoral care' as outstanding Bosco achievements

SYDNEY: 22nd February 2005 -- Her excellency, Professor Marie Bashir AC, Governor of the Australian State of New South Wales (NSW), visited St John Bosco College Engadine (Sydney), on Thursday 17th February, to present awards and offer her congratulations to students who achieved outstanding results in the 2004 senior level examinations.
The Governor highly commended all aspects of the College, emphasising the unique caring environment that compliments the academic achievement of students at Bosco. Her Excellency stated, “The Spirituality and Pastoral Care that characterises Bosco College provides inner resilience and an ability to bounce back despite the challenges of adolescence and young adulthood.”  She continued that she had no doubt that young people of Bosco College would form part of the finest generations of Australians ever.

The special Assembly which the Governor attended was to celebrate the outstanding results of class 2004. Overall, 80% of College subjects registered results above State average.  75% of the College final year students received first round offers for university placements.

College Principal, Fr Chris Ford SDB, in his address, offered congratulations and thanks to the students "for their contribution to the school and their diligence and commitment to their studies."  He acknowledged the pivotal role of loving parents and dedicated teachers, "beginning 13 years ago in primary school and culminating here in HSC (Higher Schools Certificate)."

Her excellency made a final appeal to students to "be inspired and help in a troubled world" before leaving to host a reception for returned Tsunami Relief Workers.
