GUJARAT EARTHQUAKE: SALESIANS PARTICIPATE IN RESCUE WORK

Sunday 28th Jan -- By the grace of God, our Salesian communities in Gujarat situated approximately 600 kms from Bhuj, the epicentre of the earthquake have been unaffected. Some buildings in Dakor, have developed minor cracks - but that is all the damage recorded.

The Salesians in Gujarat are already joining other humanitarian bodies in bringing assistance to the those severely affected in whatever way they
can.  At present, the death-count has touched 6000. But people fear many more in the surrounding districts have been feared killed. The breakdown of
communication systems have also added to the magnitude of the disaster. Presently, the provincial of Mumbai, Fr. Tony D'Souza, has requested the
Salesians in Gujarat and especially the students in the formation houses to participate in the rescue operations. Meanwhile, attempts are being made
to network with the Church-run organizations near the affected areas
