China Province celebrates Don Bosco
(Note - we are still running accounts of DB festivity - normally, a week later would be a bit late for this, but since they all demonstrate the way our provinces are opening the 150th anniversary, it seems good to continue this panorama of love for the Founder. If yours hasn't appeared yet, don't panic! We are also trying to recover here from email limitations imposed by our server as of yesterday - they take exception to austraLasia's very long list of recipients, so I am currently finding 'workarounds to the problem'. No good saying this to you: "if you don't receive your copy, be patient" because you won't be reading this if you are in that situation! But if someone else around you has that experience - please explain that we'll come up with a solution one way or another. This e-letter has already survived eleven years of one or other hurdle, so we'll overcome the latest one one way or another)

HONG KONG: 6th February 2009 -- This year, the China Province celebrated the Feast of St. John Bosco in a special manner. The Feast marked the beginning of the year commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the founding of our Congregation. It was also the sixth day of the Chinese New Year, and it was chosen to be the Salesian Day when all the Salesian confreres of the Province gathered to enjoy a family reunion day. Fr. Vaclav Klement and Fr. Andrew Wong were with the confreres on this joyous occasion.
The celebration took place in Tang King Po School in Kowloon and it began with football and basketball games. Fr. Klement showed his skills as a basketball player in the court. After a relaxing tea break, confreres gathered in the Chapel for the Mass of St. John Bosco. Cardinal Joseph Zen was the chief celebrant. At the end of the Mass, a solemn pledge to Don Bosco was recited by all the confreres who were each holding a lighted candle in their hands. Then they placed the candle at the feet of Don Bosco’s statue, to symbolize their loyalty and great respect to our Founder.
The celebration ended with a buffet dinner in the School Hall. Representatives from each House gave a performance for the entertainment of the gathering. Praises were sung to Don Bosco and everything was done in good Salesian fun. Confreres returned home with joy and thanksgiving to the Lord.
