PNG-SI Social Communication on the move

PORT MORESBY/HONIARA:  16 October 2013 -- It is worth highlighting what is happening in the PNG-SI Delegation where Social Communication is concerned, and the best way to do so is to draw attention to two 'products' which are more than products as such - they represent years of gradual devleopment and communal involvement, while at the same time undoubtedly reflecting the tireless efforts of one man in particular - Fr Ambrose Pereira, Rector of Don Bosco Henderson, on the outskits of Honiara, Solomon Islands.

TAVUR.

Tavur is the newsletter of the PNG-SI Delegation. In the Tolai language (one of hundreds in the region - don't forget PNG-SI has 1/6 of the world's 6-7 thousand languages within it) Tavur means a conch shell, and is a means of communication. the Salesian 'Tavur' does not always carry an identifying volume and number, so it is nto so clear how many years it has been in existence - perhaps 3? It aims at 4 editions a year.

If you click on the Tavur image above it will take you to a place where you can access this year's editions and you will quickly gain an appreciation for the amount of work and the quality of production involved.  In recent years, the African Salesian newsletters (all PDF varieties like Tavur) have 'taken the cake' for artistic and aestthetic quality, but also for the breadth of involvement from the Salesian community, and in many instances the entire Salesian Family. Tavur threatens that domination!  The SC Commission aims at 6 editions a year - or certainly for this year.

DBTI website
It took a long time in coming but it was obviously being prepared well! The Henderson Salesian Tech  fianlly launched its website on 4th October, 2014 in the presence of Salesians, Principal and staff in their Audio visual Hall. It opens with the statue of Don Bosco with images of the young creatively and colourfully put together.  ‘Journeying with the Young’ is the slogan that appears on the first slide, while ‘Good Christians and Honest Citizens of Solomon Islands’ appears with a photograph of the entire school, on the next slide.  And given the considerable amount of work that the aforementioned Fr Pereira has put into communications in the Solomons and at DBTI in particular, the new website is not lacking in good articles and a real 'communicative' feel. he has every reasons to be proud of this achievement as his six year term as Rector comes to an end there.

Behind all of this work however, lies a now established SC Commission in the Delegation. They deserve congratulations.
