dream@nine The Hand of Christ?

CANLUBANG:  31 October 2013 --  This is well worth watching!  The dialogue is in Tagalog but is subtitled in English. If these are just high schools tudents then they are really going somewhre in this medium! The title they give it is The Story of the Knot. What would you call it?

If Don Bosco were alive today, he would grab all opportunity to access whatever new technology there is to realize his lifelong dream. With this in mind, dream@nineproductions is born – in honor of our patron saint whose mission in life started with a simple childhood dream.

Dream@nine productions is just a small group of high school media enthusiasts in Don Bosco College, Canlubang(FIN). Members share their love for video making and photography and endeavour to compete in media competitions outside the school. Moreover, this group intends to spread the message of youth empowerment and social awareness through its simple documentaries.

Moved by a previously produced documentary posted inYoutube, Fr. Vitaliano “Chito” Dimaranan, SDB commissioned dream@nine to make a short film to be used in the Philippine Conference on New Evangelization (PCNE) on October 15 to 17. The topic: growing strong in broken places. The concept begins with the story of how Fr. Chito as a young Salesian knotted a mango sapling, not thinking that it would survive in such knotted state. The sapling survived and became a tree, with its knotted trunk as its strongest part. Relating this story to the situation of many young people today, and weaving in the imagery of a broken Christ, dream@nine produced “AngKuwento ni Buhol” (The Story of Knot).

This is a story of an orphan boy who grows up physically and emotionally abused by his own brother. Later, he becomes like his brother. He lives a broken life on drugs and violence and vows to get even to his brother by harming others. Having escaped from a drug raid and racked by a sense of emptiness, he finds himself in the most unusual situation, and discovers a figure that leads him to reality.

The short film was positively received in PCNE, and in theyouth group’s own school. Now, dream@nine takes the challenge of spreading the message of growing strong despite one’s brokenness through the most widespread video sharing site. May all who watch the short film find hope for a brighter tomorrow in a world that has been distracted by suffering.
